Dueling mock drafts: What if the Detroit Lions can’t trade out of 7? - prideofdetroit.com

On Friday night, we continued our weekly Mock Draft Night on our YouTube and Twitch pages. Each week, a panel of experts from Pride of Detroit act as a collective Detroit Lions war room and run through all seven rounds of a mock draft using The Draft Network’s Mock Draft Machine. Then after we’ve created a mock draft, we let users compose their own mock as a collective, polling our live audience to see who they’d take.

This week, we did things a little differently. First off, we had a very special guest. Michael Schottey (@Schottey), who you may remember his days from Bleacher Report or MLive, joined us for the night to help give us a fresh perspective on the 2021 NFL Draft class. Schottey—whose opinions you can hear with Ty Schalter and Samantha Bunten on the Three & Out podcast—brought some big NFL Draft knowledge to the show.

The second twist in this week’s episode was that there was no trading allowed in the first round of the draft. I’ve seen far too many mock drafts tweeted at me that involve five trade downs and 20 draft picks. Truth is, trading down is hard, and the Lions may not be able to load up on draft picks with the value of the seventh overall pick.

So what happens if they’re stuck? What would their draft class look like then?

We tested it out on Friday night, and you can watch it all unfold below or on our YouTube and Twitch pages.

For those too impatient to watch through the video, here’s what the two mock drafts look like.
