On Friday, Woj reported that the Houston Rockets were guaranteeing DeMarcus Cousins’ contract for the remainder of the 2020-21 NBA season.
One day later, Shams reported that Houston is surprisingly waiving Cousins, despite the fact he seemingly did everything the Rockets could have hoped for when they signed him to a one-year deal worth $2.56 million.
Cousins has showed he’s healthy and impactful this season. He’s averaged 9.4 points and 7.6 rebounds in 25 games. Sources have expressed positive feedback about Cousins’ professionalism and play during his time in Houston. https://t.co/jWLQpXsrwS

But it may end up working out with the former Kentucky Wildcats star and beloved figure in Lexington.
While getting cut is no good, it may actually pay off in a big way for Cousins if he lands with a prime NBA title contender.
According to The Ringer reporter Kevin O’Connor, the Los Angeles Lakers are among the clubs showing interest in Cousins.
Sources: The Lakers will be among the teams to pursue DeMarcus Cousins.
The market will be limited for Cousins, sources say. He has struggled this year after returning from multiple major injuries. But for LA or any team in need of big man depth, few options bring higher upside.

As of Saturday evening, the Rockets are 11-17 and four games out of a playoff spot in the Western Conference and haven’t made the NBA Finals since the days of Hakeem Olajuwon.
The Lakers, meanwhile, are 22-8, two games out of the No. 1 seed in the West, and are coming off their 17th NBA title, as well as their eighth NBA Finals appearance since Houston’s last trip there.
So yeah, I’d say Cousins will end up a big winner if he winds up on the Lakers’ roster. And he obviously has some chemistry built up with Anthony Davis from their days with the New Orleans Pelicans.
Speaking of, Davis is set to miss several weeks due to an Achilles injury, so L.A. is in desperate need of frontcourt help. Signing a guy like Cousins makes sense to help fill that void now while also providing some much-needed depth for what hopes to be another deep postseason run.
But nothing is set in stone, so stay tuned over the next week as Cousins looks for his next NBA home.
