Kylian Mbappe reportedly hesitant in contract talks—L’Equipe - Managing Madrid

The Kylian Mbappe contract saga continues as PSG are reportedly anticipating Mbappe’s departure this summer as he is hesitant in new contract negotiations, according to L’Equipe.

PSG are also reportedly look towards Barcelona and Lionel Messi as the replacement for Mbappe should he actually leave the Parisian club. If the club wants Messi then they must sell Mbappe or vise-versa, according to the report.

It’s important to say that this article, though an interesting scenario, should be taken with a grain of salt. L’Equipe is fairly hit or miss with reporting, and they’re not very reliable when it comes to transfer rumors.

It’s not likely at this point that Lionel Messi actually moves to PSG this summer. Mbappe seems a toss-up at this point as the hesitation in contract talks might really be him taking his time to decide.

So far, it seems to be pretty relaxed from both club and player in contract talks after already locking up Neymar until 2026. The report says that PSG could be looking for around €100-150 million, which also seems a bit low even in a market that has been heavily impact by the pandemic.

PSG likely won’t sell for a few more years if Mbappe signs the renewal deal before his current one expires. He could always leave on a free transfer after 2022.

For now, this scenario seems very pie-in-the-sky and not very reliable. While the report is mainly circled around Messi moving to PSG, it comes directly from the possibility that Mbappe leaves. There’s no real clear answer as we move closer to the summer and Mbappe’s decision.
