Two-time Olympic gold medalist Klete Keller pleaded guilty Wednesday to a single charge for his role in the US Capitol riot — and potentially faces more than two years in prison, according to a report.
Keller, a 39-year-old swimmer who has won a total of five medals for the US, copped to obstructing an official proceeding while storming the building on Jan. 6, according to NBC News.
“He is trying to make amends for his terrible mistake,” Keller’s lawyer, Edward MacMahon Jr., told a federal judge in Washington, DC. “[He] wants to start his life over.”
The admission of guilt comes after prosecutors agreed to drop six other charges filed against the athlete in February, including disorderly conduct, entering a restricted building and impeding law enforcement.
Keller, a lightening-fast former teammate of Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte, was caught on camera inside the Capitol during the riot, wearing no mask and sporting a Team USA jacket.
Members of the group Keller was with were seen shoving cops as they pushed into the Rotunda area of the building to protest Joe Biden’s Electoral College victory.
Keller will be sentenced at a later date and likely faces between 21 and 27 months in prison, according to federal guidelines.
Keller, of Colorado, resigned from his job as a real estate broker following his arrest.
He has won gold medals for for the 4×200-meter relay event in Athens in 2004 and Beijing in 2008, along with a silver medal in at the same event in Sydney in 2000.
MacMahon Jr., didn’t immediately return The Post’s request for comment.
