Vikings trade Mike Hughes to Kansas City Chiefs - Daily Norseman

A couple of weeks ago when the Minnesota Vikings failed to pick up the fifth-year option on the rookie contract of cornerback Mike Hughes, it turned 2021 into a “prove it” year for the Vikings’ 2018 first-round pick.

As of today, he’s going to be “proving it” somewhere else.

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the Vikings have agreed to trade Hughes to the Kansas City Chiefs, along with a 2022 seventh-round pick. According to sources, the Vikings have gotten a 2022 sixth-round pick back from the Chiefs in exchange, which is a pretty disappointing return on a player that was mostly a disappointment in his three years with the Vikings.

Hughes battled injuries the entire time he was with the Vikings. A torn ACL ended his rookie year after just six games, and while he did play in 14 games in 2019, he appeared in just four games last season before hitting injured reserve.

Hughes ends his career with the Vikings with two interceptions and 13 passes defended in 24 career games.

The Vikings must be pretty confident in the state of their cornerback room right now, which seems strange given the ongoing situation with Jeff Gladney and some of the issues they had last season. However they feel about their cornerback room going forward, however, they won’t be seeing Mike Hughes in that room any longer.
