The Jacksonville Jaguars traded up to pick 121 to pick UAB edge rusher Jordan Smith in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Smith, who originally played for the Florida Gators before being suspended and transferring to UAB, is a versatile edge rusher with the size the NFL looks for in an attacking front.
The 6-fot-6, 255 pound pass rusher was ultra productive for UAB with 23.5 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks in 21 games. Smith plays with a high motor, though is someone who is going to have to really develop his hand work for the NFL level.
Smith is clearly someone with a lot of physical talent that Urban Meyer and Joe Cullen think they will be able to mold into a pass rusher at the next level. With the team switching to more of a 3-4 attacking front, it’s likely someone like Smith will be utilized as a stand up rusher.
