Former Kansas City Chiefs WR Sammy Watkins, currently of the Baltimore Ravens, tuned in to watch his former teammates take on the Arizona Cardinals on Friday evening.
The offseason has been spent pondering which of the veteran receivers in Kansas City would step up and fill in for Watkins. He was the No. 2 receiver for the Chiefs for three seasons and his offseason departure left a void. When healthy, he was a big piece of what they did offensively. As he watched the first quarter of the game, Watkins cast a vote on Twitter toward a pair of players who could become his successors in Kansas City.
Fourth-year wide receiver Byron Pringle had a nice first half. His biggest play was a 41-yard grab delivered by backup QB Chad Henne. It was a play that left Watkins begging the Chiefs to give him the ball.
Give byron Pringle the ball..! He will move the ship..! Lol

Late in the season last year, teammates were lobbying the coaching staff for Pringle to receive more playing time. It’s a safe bet that Watkins was one of those players.
Watkins also showed some love for the scoring receiver at the end of this drive — a player who is viewed as the natural replacement for Watkins because of his draft status.
Good shit Mecole..! My guys..!

Mecole Hardman, of course, made an impressive adjustment on an underthrown pass in the endzone. He scored the first touchdown of the game, but it came after a shaky performance in the first quarter, which saw miscues between him and QB Patrick Mahomes. It remains to be seen who will pick up the mantle for Watkins in Kansas City. Both Pringle and Hardman are good choices who have flashed during the preseason for the Chiefs.
It’s generally nice to see Watkins taking an interest and continuing to support his former teammates. He’s just a few weeks away from competing against them for the first time when the Chiefs travel to M&T Bank Stadium on “Sunday Night Football” in Week 2.
