Eagles News: Cowboys fans are jealous of the Gardner Minshew trade - Bleeding Green Nation

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links ...

NFC East news: Eagles trade for QB Gardner Minshew, something the Dallas Cowboys should have done - Blogging The Boys
Nobody is saying that Minshew is a star quarterback or anything, but he certainly looks like one in a room filled with Rush, Gilbert, and DiNucci. Just two years ago many wondered if Minshew was a long-term option in Jacksonville. During that 2019 season Minshew finished with a higher passing grade from PFF than Andy Dalton who the Dallas Cowboys signed the very next offseason. Theoretically if Minshew was better (generally speaking here) than Dalton in the 2020 offseason and the Cowboys were willing to commit to the latter, why wouldn’t they commit to the former now? Especially for such a low cost?

Philadelphia Eagles 53-man roster projection: Final edition - BGN
Hurts has much to prove in the regular season but he’s trending in the right direction coming out of camp. Flacco played well against backups in the preseason but didn’t look as hot against starters. He might be able to hold down the fort if Hurts has to miss a couple games but preferably he won’t play at all for the Birds in 2021. Minshew is here to be the No. 3 guy in 2021 before potentially taking over as the No. 2 in 2022. He could theoretically supplant Flacco if the vet has to play a lot and struggles.

Eye on the Enemy #64: Gardnew Minshew Joins the QB Factory - BGN Radio
On Episode 64 of Eye on the Enemy, host John Stolnis analyzes the Eagles’ trade for Jaguars QB Gardnew Minshew, what it means for this year and beyond and Jalen Hurts’ status as the team’s starting quarterback. Also, John gives 10 predictions for the NFL season including one involving the Dallas Cowboys you’re absolutely going to want to hear.

Jaguars officially trade Gardner Minshew II to Philadelphia Eagles - Big Cat Country
Minshew began his career in Jacksonville in 2019 when he quickly became a sensation, starting for an injured Nick Foles, and having plenty of success during the first few games of the season. Minshew would go on to become a national star of sorts, creating the term “Minshew Mania” throughout media circles. Over the course of his career in Jacksonville, Minshew started 20 games, completing 501 out of 797 passes (62.9%) for 5,530 yards, 37 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. The third-year quarterback, however, would go through plenty of adversity last season after injuring his thumb, not reporting it to the coaches and ultimately getting benched as a result. Now, he will get a fresh start in Philadelphia, working behind Jalen Hurts and likely Joe Flacco as the team’s third-string QB for the foreseeable future.

Minshew Comes to Town - Iggles Blitz
I watched part of the Jaguars game last week and Minshew was up and down. That offense has some issues and it didn’t look like a good fit for him. I think the Eagles attack will fit his skill set better. There will be more short, quick throws that focus on getting RAC yards. It will also help that he’s got a good OL to play behind. I also think he’ll be a good culture fit. Nick Sirianni preaches the importance of competition. Minshew will come here with the attitude that he’s going to challenge for the starting role. Sirianni will want guys to push the starters in front of them. Minshew has a mentality that Sirianni will love.

Joe Banner: Gardner Minshew likely to become Eagles backup QB, don’t sweat starters’ extensive preseason rest - Inquirer
EJ: Do you think Minshew is the presumptive favorite to take over the backup job? JB: I don’t think they would have given up a draft pick, of course it’s contingent, so it’s not like it’s etched in stone, but I think it’s highly likely that he’s their backup quarterback, otherwise they wouldn’t have made this move. EJ: What are your thoughts on Joe Flacco so far? JB: I’m much more into the guys that have high football IQs and are really accurate with their throws. He appears to be a smart guy who plays hard and has the respect of his teammates, but if I’m talking pure talent level, I’d actually rather have Gardner. He’s obviously more mobile and they’re going into the season with risk on the offensive line, obviously more age-generated, but it’s good to be in a position to have two guys that are mobile, they’ll need to take advantage of that.

Jacksonville Jaguars trade QB Gardner Minshew to Philadelphia Eagles for conditional sixth-round draft pick - PFF
Low-risk, high-reward trade for the Eagles: Minshew has outplayed Hurts in the NFL to this point, and he could take over the starting job at some point in the season if Hurts struggles. This move won’t prevent the Eagles from looking for an even better quarterback in 2022 if neither Hurts nor Minshew proves deserving to be the starter going forward. 5 thoughts about Eagles’ trade for Gardner Minshew - NBCSP
The first thought many had when the trade went down was that maybe there’s another move to follow. And that could be true. Maybe the Eagles will try to ship Flacco off right now for a pick. But it might make more sense to keep Flacco as the backup and Minshew as the third-stringer until Minshew learns the offense. But if we’re in Week 5 and a quarterback goes down somewhere across the league? You’d have to imagine that Roseman would then be willing to trade Flacco and get a pick in return.

Eagles celebrate the life of Charlie Johnson - PE.com
The Eagles celebrate the life of All-Pro defensive tackle Charlie Johnson, a member of the franchise’s 75th Anniversary Team, who passed away on August 13 at the age of 69 at his home in Angleton, Texas. Known by his family as “a gentle giant,” Johnson was a seventh-round pick in the 1977 NFL Draft out of Colorado. Johnson helped change the team’s fortunes in his five years in Philadelphia, as the Eagles went to the playoffs four times and won the 1980 NFC Championship.

Rumor: Dolphins Emerge As Front Runner In Deshaun Watson Trade - Battle Red Blog
The clear front runner of the group is rumored to be the Miami Dolphins, who have been repeatedly linked to the Texans during this offseason. The Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, and Philadelphia Eagles have also been linked to a Watson trade, but Miami is believed to be the most interested. The Texans are supposedly demanding at three first round picks and two second round picks for Watson, but teams are reportedly seeking pick protection of some sort in the event Watson is suspended this season.

KS4GM’s Final 2021 WFT 53-Man Roster - Hogs Haven
The top 5 are locks. I think AGG played his way onto the roster in games 2 and 3. [Former Eagles WR] Deandre Carter is kept for punt returns. Dax Milne goes to the PS.

‘Things I think’ as the Giants’ preseason comes to a close - Big Blue View
I am never going to be a homer. I simply can’t be that negative right now. Entering the year I see the Giants as a middle of the road team that should, reasonably, be expected to win eight or nine games. To me, they are standing at that fork in the road. Will circumstances lead them south, to a five- or six-win season? Will circumstances lead them north, to 10 or maybe 11 wins and a playoff berth? The injuries to key players have made it more difficult to be optimistic, sure. Maybe it will be an ugly year. As I sit here at the end of August, though, I think chances are LaCanfora will end up being wrong.

Colts backup QB Sam Ehlinger out 5-6 weeks with ACL sprain - Stampede Blue
Now, we’ll see how the Colts maneuver Ehlinger’s injury on the 53-man roster. The best bet is that Indianapolis places Ehlinger on the short-term injured reserve list, which opens up a temporary roster spot through the first month of the season. Will the Colts carry Brett Hundley as the third-string QB, or just roll with Jacob Eason behind Carson Wentz?

2021 fantasy football draft guide - DraftKings Nation
Last year, the big question was around the COVID-19 pandemic. We still will see players dealing with COVID-19, but with most players vaccinated, it will hopefully not be as big an issue. The bigger question this year is the league expanding to a 17th game for each team. That means we now have 18 weeks of regular season football instead of the traditional 17 weeks. That also means an extra week of fantasy football! We’ve got plenty to help you as you figure out your fantasy draft decisions. Dive in and good luck!
