Sixers Bell Ringer: Sixers survive a Bradley Beal explosion and hold off Wizards - Liberty Ballers

Sixers Bell Ringer Season Standings:

Joel Embiid - 3
Tobias Harris - 3
Dakota Mathias - 1

Regarding the events of the day, I’ll leave this joint statement from the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat here:

Hopefully this silly little post helps to bring joy into your lives in some small way, as well.

Transitioning to the game that took place in Philadelphia tonight...it was WILD. The Sixers were scorching hot in the first half, scoring 82 points in the first half on 12-of-15 shooting from 3. At one point in the second quarter, they scored on 13 straight possessions. However, despite trailing by as many as 21 points in the third quarter, the Wizards would not go quietly, led by Bradley Beal, who scored 57 of his career-high 60 points in the first three quarters alone. After Washington took the lead midway through the fourth quarter, the Sixers finally pulled out of the skid and made some big plays down the stretch to prevail, 141-136. Bell Ringer time!

Joel Embiid: 38 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, 3 blocks, 5 turnovers

Strangely, tonight was an awful start for Joel, who missed his first six shots from the field. He turned things around in a big way, however, and was the MVP the Sixers needed in the guts of the game. With the game tied 131-131 with four minutes remaining, Embiid went on a personal 8-0 to put the game to bed. During that run, JoJo also swooped down the lane to block a Bradley Beal lay-up attempt, just to cement how he does it all on both ends. He shot 3-of-4 from 3, a perfect 13-of-13 from the foul line, and had one of the hustle plays of the game with a chasedown block of ex-teammate Raul Neto in the second quarter. The MVP narrative is gaining a head of steam.

Seth Curry: 28 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 turnover

Early on, Seth looked like he might be in line for a historic night. He shot a perfect 5-of-5 from 3 in the first quarter, and then made his sixth attempt as well to tally 20 points in the first half. All three of his assists set up Embiid, as Curry was able to draw multiple defenders and kick back to an open Joel. Imagine leaving Embiid open! The power of shooting gravity. Although he was quieter in the second half, Seth did sink three mid-range shots in the fourth quarter, all of which either tied the game or gave the Sixers the lead. Ice in his veins!

Ben Simmons: 17 points, 6 rebounds, 12 assists, 2 steals, 3 turnovers

Ben’s 12 assists were a season-high; they included a visionary cross-court skip pass from the post to the opposite corner for a Tobias Harris 3, and a well-timed and precise feed to Embiid under the basket to set up the three-point play that broke the 131-131 tie. That duo later swapped roles for the Sixers’ final basket, with Ben’s bucket underneath extending the lead to six and basically cementing the Philadelphia win.

Tobias Harris: 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 turnovers

Tonight was a slight step back for Tobias, barely ending his four-game streak with at least 20 points. He was still efficient, though, shooting 3-of-7 from 3 as part of an overall 8-of-16 shooting night. Big picture, Harris passed the 10,000-point mark for his career during the game. Congrats, Tobi!
