Since the Portland Trail Blazers lost to the Denver Nuggets in Game 6 of their playoffs series on Thursday, speculation has been circling around Damian Lillard leaving Portland. Just as the (mostly unfounded) gossip reaches a peak, ESPN’s Stephen A Smith rides to the rescue, suggesting another star who could join Lillard in the Pacific Northwest.
The First Take personality said he was told Minnesota Timberwolves two-time All Star Karl-Anthony Towns was currently in Portland and would be a nice fit alongside Lillard. He did not suggest any deals were being discussed.
No need to corroborate! I said what I said. A well-connected league source simply texted me to say Karl-Anthony Towns would be a perfect fit with Dame in Portland. That’s all https://t.co/yEElr4RC1o

“I just got a text from somebody.”
“They will remain nameless. But let’s just say they have incredible credibility when it comes to basketball. And they mentioned to me Karl-Anthony Towns maybe in Portland, and you make a move involving Nurkic, McCollum or whomever and bring in Karl-Anthony Towns.”
The talented big man has made the postseason just once during his seven-year career in Minnesota averaging 22.9 points, 11.6 rebounds, 3 assists and 1.4 blocks throughout his career. The 25-year-old will make $31.6 million next season, $33.8 million the year following, and $36.0 million in 2023-24, the final year of his contract.
