The 2021 NBA Draft has been one of the more anticipated drafts in a while, thanks in part to the immense talent at the top. The No. 1 overall recruit out of high school Cade Cunningham looked every bit of a generational talent at Oklahoma State, while Jalen Suggs nearly led the Gonzaga Bulldogs to an undefeated season.
Evan Mobley was the clear best frontcourt prospect for this draft after leading USC to the Elite 8, while both Johnathan Kuminga and Jalen Green put up amazing stats for the G League Ignite Team, showing that they’re ready for the pros. And there are plenty of other top-tier prospects projected to go in the lottery that can be future game-changers for respective franchises.
Speaking of the lottery, we now know which teams will be picking where next month. Houston, Orlando, and Detroit had the best odds of landing the No. 1 pick, while the Golden State Warriors and Orlando Magic had to wait to find out if they were getting multiple lottery picks this season or not.
In the end, the results didn’t have too many big surprises, with the exception of the Toronto Raptors jumping up to the top 4. The Detroit Pistons have the No. 1 pick in the 2021 draft, followed by Houston and then Cleveland. Golden State gets No. 7 (from Minnesota) and 14 since the first pick was out of the top 3, while Orlando gets Chicago’s pick after falling out of the top 5.
So who were the biggest winners and losers from the lottery results? Here is my top 3 on both sides.
