Jaylon Smith lands with Packers after Cowboys release - New York Post

Jaylon Smith found a new home quickly.

Less than 24 hours after the Cowboys released the former Pro Bowler, Smith secured a one-year deal with the Packers. The linebacker’s agents confirmed the deal to multiple outlets.

Smith will add speed and fill a major gap for the Packers’ defense after a slew of injuries put them in trouble at the position.

The Cowboys will still pay Smith, who signed a massive contract extension before the 2019 season worth $68 million over five years, this season. About $34 million of the contract was guaranteed, and he has a $7.2 million base salary for 2021.

Smith had zero starts this season in four weeks. He recorded 19 tackles and played in 148 of 264 snaps.

Despite a significant knee injury while at Notre Dame, Smith has been an effective and reliable defender. He appeared in all 16 games in each of his previous four seasons.

Smith was selected 34th overall by the Cowboys in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft.

Both the Cowboys and Packers are 3-1.
