Pat McAfee bet big on his alma mater and the Syracuse Orange made him pay.
McAfee, a former NFL punter with the Indianapolis Colts and current SiriusXM radio host, attended Sunday’s matchup at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, hoping to see the Mountaineers advance to the Sweet 16. He also hoped to do some good by making a bet on the Mountaineers.
McAfee shared a $10,000 bet that he made pre-game on West Virginia to win Sunday’s matchup outright. Had the Mountaineers won, McAfee said he would have given away the winnings.
It was not meant to be. The Orange defeated the Mountaineers 75-72.
Buddy Boeheim led the scoring for the Orange with 25 points. Quincy Guerrier, Marek Dolezaj and Joseph Girard all added 12 points apiece in the winning effort.
Following their win, Syracuse will head to the Sweet 16, where they will take on the winner of the matchup between the Houston Cougars and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
