NEW YORK — The Yankees are going to be without their best hitter at the worst possible time.
The Yankees put right fielder Aaron Judge on the COVID-19 injured list on Friday afternoon before a game against the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium.
Backup catcher Kyle Higashioka and third baseman Gio Urshela also went on the COVID-19 IL. They joined relievers Nestor Cortes Jr. and Wandy Peralta, who landed on it Thursday, and Jonathan Loaisiga, who went on it Saturday when the team was in Houston.
Trey Amburgey was slated to start in right field with outfielder Greg Allen on the bench Friday night. Infielder Hoy Jun Park and first baseman Chris Gittens each were also called up. Luke Voit was put on the IL with a knee injury.
